How Recruiters Evaluate Senior-Level Resumes
The first pass is fast and pattern-based. Here is what reviewers look for before they read anything closely.
The first pass is a filter, not a read
Reviewers scan for level, industry relevance, recency, and progression. If those four signals are not obvious in the top third of page one, the document rarely gets a second pass.
What earns a closer read
Specific evidence. Named outcomes, scale, and the type of change you led. Generic leadership language reads as unverifiable and gets skipped.
- Clear current level and target level alignment
- Evidence of ownership rather than participation
- A consistent narrative between resume and LinkedIn
