How to Write an Executive Resume in 2026
What separates a senior-level resume from a longer version of a manager resume, and how to structure leadership evidence.
Lead with scope, not duties
An executive resume is evaluated on scope: budget owned, teams led, markets covered, and decisions made. Duties describe a job description; scope describes a leader. Open with a positioning summary that states the level you operate at and the type of business problem you are hired to solve.
Structure every role the same way
Give each role a one-line context statement (business, size, mandate), then three to five achievement bullets. Consistency lets a reader compare your roles quickly and see progression.
- Context: what the business needed when you arrived
- Action: the decision or initiative you owned
- Result: the measurable or observable outcome
Keep it machine-readable
Single-column layouts, standard section headings, real text instead of graphics, and role titles that match market language keep your document readable by both applicant-tracking systems and human reviewers.
